Graham Govan

For the artist, the medium of photography offers a multitude of possibilities. In my case, I have chosen to employ both traditional and contemporary photographic practices to explore still life, street photography and digital art.

With the camera, I prefer to work intuitively, allowing an element of chance to determine the outcome. Photographing predominantly in evening light, I aim to capture a moment in time or create a composition that resonates with the viewer on a subjective level, transcending the everyday situations or subject matter that are depicted.

In my digital work I draw inspiration from many sources. Painting, printmaking and found materials both inform and contribute to the montages and abstract pieces I create. Occasionally, I incorporate elements of my own photographs into the work. An innate desire for fresh visual stimuli feeds into this process and encourages the development of my work in new and unexpected directions.
